|We hope this update finds you well!
As many of you may have heard, Governor Brown has given the option for Dental offices to re-open for all treatment as of May 1st. There are many guidelines and rules that we are required to follow however, they have not been made clear at this time. We are waiting on more guidance from the Oregon Health Authority as well as our local and national associations.
In order to keep our patients and staff safe, we will continue to be available for emergency treatment as we wait for more clear guidelines. In the meantime, we will be preparing as much as possible with the information that we do have.
Our main priority is the safety of our patients, staff, and community. While we are anxious to get back to caring for each and every one of you, we want to have all new policies, safety features, and appropriate equipment in place. We assure you that we are working on this and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

Oral Cancer Screening
Your mouth is part of the oral cavity, which also includes your lips, cheek lining, gums, front part of your tongue, floor of the mouth and the hard palate (roof of your mouth). The throat (pharynx) starts at the soft part of the roof of your mouth and continues back into your throat. It includes the back section of your tongue as well as the base where the tongue attaches to the floor of your mouth.
During your dental visit, Dr. Ammon can talk to you about your health history and examine these areas for signs of mouth and/or throat cancer. Regular visits to Dr. Ammon can improve the chances that any suspicious changes in your oral health will be caught early, at a time when cancer can be treated more easily.
Symptoms of Mouth or Throat Cancer
Make sure to tell us about any problems you have when chewing, swallowing, speaking or moving your tongue or jaw. At Columbia River Dental in St. Helens, we will include a thorough oral cancer screening during your comprehensive exam.
